Sat at a bulkhead seat on a recent long haul flight on SIA to Singapore. Sat across from a crew jumpseat, on which sat a very pretty, charming stewardess, probably in her early 20s. I'm in my 30s.
I usually only make small talk with cabin crew, as I realize they're busy and have a job to do onboard. After the 12-hour flight, the pilot initiated the descent and she strapped herself in, opposite from me, so we were facing each other.
Next to me was an elderly gentleman who was asleep most of the flight. First she asked him (in English) how his flight went. He woke up, replied in a language both of us didn't understand, and then went back to sleep. We smiled at each other out of mutual miscomprehension.
Then she started speaking to me.
First, it was just casual conversation, but then she started asking me personal details -- where I live, what I do, and also what I was going to do during my stay in Singapore, where I was staying, etc. She began suggesting things for me to do during my stay, but after a while it seemed as if she was implying that we should do them together.
Its not my imagination: I mean, I was there on business for a certain expo. She said she was very interested in it, and lived nearby, and in Singapore that weekend. So I kind of felt obliged to ask her to drop by.
So I was surprised that during a 30-min descent we had this rush conversation.
In the end, I left her my card, almost certain that we would maintain at least a friendly contact, but I never heard back from her.
So I wonder if this was something that she was trained to do.
