SIA company policy encourages flirting?

Sat at a bulkhead seat on a recent long haul flight on SIA to Singapore. Sat across from a crew jumpseat, on which sat a very pretty, charming stewardess, probably in her early 20s. I'm in my 30s.

I usually only make small talk with cabin crew, as I realize they're busy and have a job to do onboard. After the 12-hour flight, the pilot initiated the descent and she strapped herself in, opposite from me, so we were facing each other.

Next to me was an elderly gentleman who was asleep most of the flight. First she asked him (in English) how his flight went. He woke up, replied in a language both of us didn't understand, and then went back to sleep. We smiled at each other out of mutual miscomprehension.

Then she started speaking to me.

First, it was just casual conversation, but then she started asking me personal details -- where I live, what I do, and also what I was going to do during my stay in Singapore, where I was staying, etc. She began suggesting things for me to do during my stay, but after a while it seemed as if she was implying that we should do them together.

Its not my imagination: I mean, I was there on business for a certain expo. She said she was very interested in it, and lived nearby, and in Singapore that weekend. So I kind of felt obliged to ask her to drop by.

So I was surprised that during a 30-min descent we had this rush conversation.

In the end, I left her my card, almost certain that we would maintain at least a friendly contact, but I never heard back from her.

So I wonder if this was something that she was trained to do.

As far as i know, many of us do carry out conversations as such with passengers . As to how it is conducted and the exact words (or insinuation), only the parties involved would know... but many of us are comfortable with delving into personal questions despite a 5-10 minute dialogue, be it male or female passengers, young or old.

Call it training or a natural knack for a little PR, most of us do it not with the intention of throwing a teaser. In your case, perhaps the young lady was being her usual self, playing the lovely host. Perhaps the chemistry was there, who knows? Only you and she would, i guess.

Hmm, considering your explanation, I think there might have been a chance, but I think I struck out since she didn't call. I suppose I'm not as charming as I used to be in my 20s ;-).

not easy to understand women's intentions. Worse when they're in service industry, always smiling and saying nice stuff. not that i'm complaining, of course!
